About This Project

The project titled ‘The Landscape of the Fish: Climate Change(s) Life and Design in the Venetian Lagoon‘ was selected and showcased at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennal as part of the ‘Terrae Acquae’ exhibition in the Italian Pavilion.

The presented video gives voice to a grey mullet named Lucio and his perspective on living in a changing climate. It highlights the roles and intelligence of both more-than-humans and humans in designing and redesigning coastal adaptation and mitigation through the natural design of fish and the traditional system of fish valleys. For generations, grey mullets have followed the same cycle: in the summer, they danced in the waves of the upper Adriatic; with the arrival of autumn, the winds and lunar phases guide them to migrate toward the lagoon or the delta, seeking a safe refuge for the winter. Due to climate change, reproduction has shifted today, driven by the unusual heat.
